Heritage Home Registry Program
In order to promote the interest of the general public in the heritage of Lake County, the Lake County Historical Society desires to recognize homes in the county which are representative of the people and history of the county, such homes to be designated as Heritage Homes.
Persons interested in having their homes designated by the Society as a Heritage Home shall:
1. Submit evidence of the age of the home and alterations made since its construction or
2. Submit evidence or a documented statement regarding the early residents of the home and their contribution to early Lake County history.
A committee of the Historical Society or a designated representative of the committee shall consider such application and upon a determination that the home or a substantial portion thereof is of architectural significance and/or the former residents of the home were significant citizens of Lake County within the last 50 years, shall certify the home as a Heritage Home.
There will be a fee of $25 to process the application. Homes so designated shall be qualified to display a plaque of a design approved by the Historical Society designating the home as a Heritage Home. It is requested that an applicant give as much information as possible as this information will become a part of the library of the Society. This application must be filed at the Society offices at 415 Riverside Drive, Painesville Township, Ohio 44077.
Applicants will be notified of the action taken on their application. Once approval is given, the owner of the home designated as a Heritage Home and may purchase throught the Society a 10.5"x14" plaque with the words Heritage Home and name of the Lake County Historical Society on it.
